Mini-Hydropower Plant

Hydropower Concept and Overview

Hydropower is produced due to build up of water pressure.  If water is piped or directed to a lower
level, this builds pressure that is able to mechanically move objects, which in turn could generate
electricity or do manual work that involves movement. Hydropower existed way back in the ancient
times with the use of falling or flowing water as a source of energy, but with modern innovations
then, in the beginning of the 19th Century, the development or invention of hydro turbines further
enhanced hydropower technology.

Mini-Hydropower

Mini-Hydropower principle is the same as that of the other types. I's power range is from 100 kW
to 1 MW. Mini-hydropower can power 100 - 1000 homes.

Advantages

Clean power source, no air or water pollution.
It is a renewable energy source.
Minimal enviromental impact.
No need to create reservoirs that can have high impacts on communities such as large scale cut
down of trees, displacement of people.
